mydesktopscreenlet

According to this thread
in Ubuntu Forum, in order to be able to apply conditions screenlet like ClearWeather or SmoothWeather, we demand to redact/usr/share/screenlets/ClearWeather/ClearWeatherScreenlet.py and add `` & link=xoap '' to thexoap.weather.com URL. So the URL will look like this
http://xoap.weather.com/weather/local/'+self.ZIP+'?cc=*&dayf=10=xoap&link=xoap&par=1003666583&key=4128909340a9b2fc&unit='+unit+'&hbhf=12&link=xoap'

And if you dont cognise the zipcode of your metropolis, attendweather.com so input your metropolis and hunt. Look at the reference toolbar in your browser. In my instance, I looked for Osaka and this is what I got:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/local/JAXX0071
?lswe=Osaka,%20JAPAN&lwsa=Weather36HourBusinessTravelerCommand&from=searchbox_typeahead

From that URL, my zipcode is JAXX0071. Enter that in your conditions screenlet and be steel oneself against tomorrow 's conditions :D

Why We Twirp: A Theory
[info]jedbaldwinzm

In my last station here, I suggested that Twitter-cum-phenomenon was commencing to experience like the FL realty marketplace circa 2005 ( ballyhoo growing of the service far outstripping the substantial value it renders ). Given that Oprah riveted her show on Chirrup yesterday, I considered I should follow upwardly that last station by assay to unpack the brain-teaser of Chirrup 's entreaty.

Dave Winer indited this
on Scripting.com
before in the hebdomad:

I read Farhad Manjoo 's piece
in Slate about Chirrup. It Get the best of a family of comment that tells that Chirrup is something you can jump if you are n't interested in periodical 140-character studies on workaday people 's lives. As I read the piece it add up, so I was left inquiring why I was and still am pulled to Chirrup and utilise it, daily.

I putted upwardly my first Chirrup chronicle ( one of 5-6 ) back in Sep 2006. It holded merely established, but geeks here in San Francisco were speaking and blogging about it. I hold been an on, so off, so on-again Twitterer, and hold inquired the same enquiry regularly: `` Why am I here? What am I rattlingly getting out of this? ''

The Chirrup squad 's web trade ( by that, I intend the art of constructing a seductive and useable service ) was what initially pulled Maine It holds e'er been a joyousness to apply and is impressively done, in a million rattlingly elusive shipways. Understanding what they 've had best I believe aids us to understand the entreaty the service holds holded, even when so many of us hold so frequently stated: `` I make n't get it. ''

Here are the things I 've particularly admired as a fellow web craftsman:

1. Asynchronous Following

At the clip Chirrup established, the canonic societal media attack was `` friending '' a mutual relationship. Myspace, Flickr, Facebook, and 12 of other imitative societal webs postulate ( and still ask, in many examples ) this descriptor of relationship. The demand of reciprocality can experience restrictive, trammelling, claustrophobic and unreal all at once. Chirrup picked the lock on this first, with a hybridized attack of `` friending '' and `` following '' ( like subscribing a blog provender, but in a mode that experiences much more personal ), and so abandoned `` friending '' whole.

Asynchronous followers permited Chirrup to go a publication platform, but with the simplicity and closeness of a communications service. Celebrities and others could utilise Chirrup to air to their fans and followers, with hardly any attempt in the least. Ashton Kutcher
can hold over a million followers because there is no reciprocality he makes n't need to follow them back. And it holds permited those 1 million + Twitterers who follow Kutcher get to indulge in one of the web 's guilty pleasances skulking and stalking, with a sly and uncanny combination of both namelessness ( `` I 'm one of a million, Ashton ca n't say I read that Tweet '' ) and closeness ( `` I 'm named as one of Ashton 's followers! '' ).

2. Ease-of-use and the 140-Character Bound

Novelists oft speak about the absolutism of a white sheet. That same affright likelily holds blogging from going a more popular. Penning is beshrewed hard, it takes clip and attempt, you should be committed. Chirrup, by wedging difficult to the 140-character boundary in order to inter-operate with SMS, straightawaily
worked that job ( I make n't believe that was a lucky accident; after all Ev
and Biz
maked blogger and saw firsthand the hurdles before of bloggers ).

Suddenly you could print publically on the web with less endeavour than it takes to compose an email. The short-form restriction took the pressure forth, and leveled the playing field. Yeats
, were he on Chirrup, would n't necessarily Twirp better than you or I.

3. The Feeling That You 're Not Alone

Last and for me, far and away, most crucially and impressively were the simple slipways the Chirrup squad visually joint the impression of `` following '' on Chirrup. The co-mingling of Tweets you indite with those from people you follow was an absolute shot of mastermind. It gives the appearance an semblance, maybe that individual is out there paying attending.

It Holds informative to believe about this in comparing to blogging. I am typewriting this station from my really trustworthy and capableWordPress.com splashboard. To my left and my right are every bidding and tool I might postulate as a publisher. But when I hit the publish button, I 've not a hint that anyone will read this. It attends to the quintessence, to aWordPress.com waiter, and so sits inert in the descriptor of a webpage that may or may not ever be seen.

Contrast that to Chirrup. Whether I 'm inditing a Tweet from a client like Tweetdeck or Twhirl, orTwitter.com, not a publication tool in sight. But I 'm skirted by people. Tweets from people I follow. Equally presently as I hit enter, my tweet is right there in the watercourse. I cognise, intuitively, that people will belike read my Tweet; after all, gazing me in the face are short messages from the people I follow. Peradventure a couple of of my 300-odd followers will read what I 've need to tell.

I holded n't conceived about the contrast with the existent enactment and procedure of blogging until this past hebdomad. And, in the terminal, this contrast works the brain-teaser for me.

This UI, and the publication mechanics of Chirrup, are not proficient inventions; they are psychological
ones. They give you the splanchnic feeling that individual out there is listening, that somebody is paying attending to you. Excogitations from the community like the utilisation of `` @ '' for answers, and retweets, hold but reenforced all that.

You make n't get that from blogging - the impression of an audience feels more abstract; your readers more distant; the percept that you are being heard more rarefied.

In the terminal, we 're left with a paradox or two. The enactment
of Twittering prolong people Tweet because it Holds easy, and it gives them the appearance somebody is out there, listening. But the substantial value of these Tweets for readers is at the best debatable.

The enactment of blogging feels insulate, silo 'd, lonely even at least compared to Chirrup. But the substantial events from blogging can be impressive, utile, even life-changing for the reader.

UPDATE: VA Heffernan holds an interesting take
on Chirrup in tomorrow 's NY Times mag.

Interesting experimentation, or critical to success?
[info]jedbaldwinzm

So many near an internal societal concern package ( SBS ) go-ahead with an `` under the radiolocation, '' pipeline, organic, viral attitude but
I entirely understand this, because the idea is that, if we can get folks employing it, we can finally prove concern value actual, and the stratosphere executives and mid-level directors wo n't be able to deny the obvious outcomes.

Well, that makes n't work in every organisation.

Kathryn
and I commence our shops with one of the most important things you can make to do success more likely: adjust your SBS targets to your company 's strategical enterprises.

It must be obvious to all regarded how your SBS aims align to your organisation 's overall concern scheme. Make n't presume people will merely `` get it '' - many wo n't.

A common attack to making your concern aims message includes the undermentioned stairs:

1. Identify corporate concern enterprises

Many organisation insure that everyone cognise what their central concern enterprisingnesses are, and why they are important. Some are really high grade, while others are rather specific.

Here are some illustrations:
Get a planetary thought leader in our industry
Go the premier spot to work in our industry
Significantly secernate our merchandises and services in the market
Increase world-wide sales by 5 % within one yr
Two-baser our company 's gross within five eld

2. Specify the job and endangerment

Describe how your organisation 's prevailing single and collaborative work behaviours come short of supporting one or more enterprises. Include how these `` broken '' work behaviours can guide to unneeded costs or lost concern chances. Include descriptions of how bing single productiveness and collaborative package tools are applied today, if your end is to displace one or more existing tools.

Lashkar-e-Toiba 's take the concern enterprise, `` Significantly secern our merchandises and services in the market ''
as an illustration. Enquire some of the undermentioned inquiries might aid you hit a unequivocal job statement:

  1. How make today 's collaborative work behaviours preclude organization-wide advanced cerebration from happing? Are there silos of stale thought?

  2. How are successful ware development and service finish patterns detected and shared across your organisation?

  3. How is competitory ware and service info surfaced and shared throughout your company?

  4. How are emergent marketplace chances surfaced and shared? Are customer-facing employees invited into ware and service development discourses?

  5. How make people find and acquire from one another 's different points of perspective and experiences when developing new merchandises and services?

Here Holds an illustration job statement:

Locating experts and pluses is hard and a barrier to invention and mundane job licking. It is hard to find who holds the acquisitions or knowledge I can leverage, or where we hold already maked something earlierly. There is overmuchly `` reinventing the wheel '' passing across our organisation. These present a important obstruction to presenting foremost consulting services to our clients.

See including a existent anecdote that exhibits the job, especially if it spotlight any incurred unneeded costs or lost marketplace chances.

3. Place the possibilities

Next, explicate how to positively alter those work doings by doing SBS available to your organisation. This is your opportunity to compose what one Swing client names a `` future history. ''

Here Holds an representative:

With a societal concern online environment, which is a individual, easy-to-use coaction, expertness uncovering, and organisational cognisance and networking environment, employees will be authorise to find and cooperate with each other and with external spouses securely and efficiently. Employees will happen mortals based on their expertness, location, or content parts, thereby increasing their organisational cognizance - who 's, and who makes what for our company. This will conduct to more people detecting, acquiring from, and sharing with more people, which will ensue in better coaction with more rightly-skilled squads, and supply a greater opportunity for more modern thought across the Earth.

4. Place the benefits

Now that the vision holds been maked, rewrite the anecdote utilise to exhibit the job to demonstrate how the utilization of a societal concern environment could cut unneeded costs or place and purchase marketplace chances.

This re-written anecdote should go the framework for capturing the eventual anecdotes participants will experience
when utilise your societal concern environment. Real-world narrations about cost savings and leveraged chances will furnish the quotable sound bites that executives can interiorise and share across their ain webs, inside and outside your organisation.

My Ten Dollar Motorcycle
[info]jedbaldwinzm

I buyed a cycle on Sat.

My wife and I were cruisin ' the jumble sale, and a motorcycle get on my listing of things to get.

It Holds kinda old and battered upwardly, and looks like it took some ill-treatment from a teen rider or two.

Material was rusty, the tires were plane.

And it was 10 bucks, so I pip out.

It turned out that the flat maked n't come from a busted tubing, so I was able to amplify, WD-40 the cogwheels and concatenation, and it was useable.

The place was awfully uncomfortable, and visually the tires are breaking, so when my wife and I attended Wal-Mart, we purchased her a new motorcycle for $ 70, and a couple of things for my motorcycle:

  • new brake tablets - $ 5 ( the old ones are dried out caoutchouc and not working likewise ) for the dorsum posed but

  • new place - $ 16 ( much better than the other one )

  • two new internal tubings - $ 12

  • one new Tyre - $ 12 ( they merely holded one that was the type I desired, so I 'll get the other one when they restock )

I merely layed the place on so far. I 'm not sure how goodly the brake tablets are attending work, or if I 'll involve a new set of brake clinches.

But so my new $ 10 motorcycle holds been, so far, $ 55, and will likely be someplace in the reach of $ 80-100 before I 'm maked.

So, my $ 10 motorcycle will be to a higher degree my wife 's marque new glossy motorcycle.

And my wife holded enquire me why I maked n't simply purchase a new shining motorcycle if I thread upward bing the same anyway.

And she too objects to me naming it a $ 10 motorcycle because it 's more that.

And I sayed her that if she shoulds inquire why I 'm set about my motorcycle this style, so she ca n't perchance understand why.

In other tidings, I 'm doing a important modification in the way of PlayDeez Games.

Since it holds done really small money as such, and it middling much rests a free deposit of my games, I 'm not attending mess thereupon, but the way and centering will get a little of a jog.

Since I 've already got the mack miniskirt and the iPod touching, and the ability to print thereto, I 'm attending concentrate there.

PlayDeez Games is attending be a electronic games ministry. The wares are attending have a nice button with a a cross thereon, or the small fish symbol that, when pressed, will attend a screen that says a somebody about Deliverer.

The games themselves will not necessarily be bibically or sacredly themed, but they will not include message incompatible with my beliefs either ( which intends - fundamentally no alteration to game content, as I make n't indite games I 'd object to anyways )

I 'm not attending bible-thump. I 'm not attending peck the participant every three seconds with `` Jesus Loves You! '' popups. I 'm not attending essay to proselytise. But the icon will be there, in case you desire to investigate.

But you will, from looking at the rubric screen, *KNOW* that a Christian maked this game, and be able to get more info about that, if you wish.

Likewise, there will be two indistinguishable versions of the game: free and paid ( $0.99 ). These versions will be completely indistinguishable differently the name. This gives people a completely voluntary ways of donating to the attempt. This is at least at the commencement, and we 'll see where this locomotes.

So, this is a new way, and I 'm aroused about it.

The first game is named `` Feed The Fish '' and is roughly based on the electronic plaything I played facebook of the same name, but more fullly featured.

Following on the listing is another `` virtual pet '' named `` Touching the Diamond '', which holds the same basic topic of my old `` Clink the Yellowness Rhomb '' games, but completely different gameplay. The rhomb will hold a `` humor '' and `` tell '' things to you when you touch it. It 'll be cunning.

I take these two because they are promptly implementable, and I desire to get the ball peal.

So now I 'm a missional to iTunes and the cyberspace generally.

Besides, this is my Centesimal station to my new blog. Unlike traditional Centesimal stations, this station is not altogether devoured with speaking about how it is the Hundredth station.

God Bless.

Confederacy!

You 're either into confederacies or you are n't. I 'm not, and usually I would ne'er ever even reckon purchasing a book named Confederacy, particularly if it holded a rattlingly lurid covert.

It Holds by Robert Harris! And we all cognize what confederacy it Holds attending be about! The mother of all confederacies, which no one understood back in Eleventh class because both Sallustius and Cicero pent such rattlingly thorny prose.
